Why Malaysians Have Unclaimed Australian Super

Australia's superannuation guarantee requires every employer to contribute a minimum percentage (currently 11.5%) of an employee's ordinary time earnings into a super fund. This applies to all workers, including temporary visa holders. Many Malaysians work in Australia on working holiday visas, student visas or skilled worker visas, and return to Malaysia without claiming their super. Over time, these accounts become 'lost' or 'unclaimed' and are transferred to the ATO.

DASP, Departing Australia Superannuation Payment

If you held a temporary visa (such as a 417 Working Holiday visa) and have permanently left Australia, you may be eligible for a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP). This allows you to withdraw your entire super balance as a lump sum. PensionHunter identifies all your super accounts, you can then apply for DASP directly or through the ATO.

How We Search

Our Country Pension Identification Report ($99) searches the ATO's publicly accessible lost super information and cross-references Australian employer records to identify APRA-regulated super funds linked to your Australian work history. At Enhanced Pension Identification Report tier ($499) we prepare a complete request pack for each fund we identify, written and ready to send under your signed Information Request Authority (IRA). We use your Tax File Number (if you have it), employment history and personal details.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you held a temporary visa and have permanently left Australia, you can apply for a DASP (Departing Australia Superannuation Payment) to withdraw your super as a lump sum. PensionHunter identifies your super accounts, the DASP application is made directly to the ATO or your super fund.

We can search using your passport details, employment history and personal information. Having your TFN makes the search faster, but it is not essential. Many Malaysians who worked in Australia years ago no longer have their TFN, we work with whatever information you have.

We report back within five working days of your intake form with a full summary of every super account we identify. Full refund if we find nothing material.
