The Pension Scoreboard
Unclaimed pensions by country: who publishes a figure, and who does not
Of the forty-seven national pension systems on this page, two governments or regulators publish a current figure for unclaimed pensions. One regulator publishes a figure whose data is now five years old. Two more figures exist only because independent researchers produced them. The remaining forty-two systems have never published a figure.
Every row below names the body that would publish a national figure and links to it, states what the system is called, and says what a person who worked there should do first. Where a figure exists it carries its publisher, its date, the number of years since the data it describes, and a link to the primary source, and it stays in the currency the publisher used. Where no figure exists the row says so rather than estimating one. The list covers forty-seven national systems, drawn from the 52 in the PensionHunter portals directory, which is itself wider than the 41 countries the service operates in.
This study examines 47 national systems for transparency. Our country guides cover 52 systems in total.
Our separate study of whether national pension authorities can be reached from abroad is published at The reachability study.
Our research on the people these systems do not reach, non-residents, third-country residents and estates, is published at The non-resident gap.

One country counts its members abroad. It found a billion dollars.
Of the 46 national systems in this index, four publish a figure for unclaimed pensions. Only one publishes a figure for members who left the country. The Australian Taxation Office told us on the record that as at 30 June 2025 it held just over 1 million unclaimed accounts worth almost A$1.1 billion for former temporary residents alone. Australian citizens and former permanent residents living overseas are not in that number, so the true figure is higher. One administrator counts its diaspora. It can be done.
Source: written response from the ATO Media Unit to PensionHunter, 11 August 2026, attributable to an ATO spokesperson. Full Australian figures: A$18.9 billion in lost and unclaimed super at 30 June 2025; A$21.5 billion at 31 December 2025 (Assistant Treasurer, 21 February 2026).
Which countries publish figures for unclaimed pensions of people living abroad?
Of the 46 systems in our transparency scoreboard, only Australia publishes an abroad-specific figure: A$1.1 billion held for former temporary residents as at 30 June 2025, per the ATO. Four systems publish any unclaimed figure at all.

A national matching office exists, but the balance held in dormant second-pillar accounts is not published as a country total.
Authority response, 11 August 2026: PUBLICA, the federal pension fund, confirmed it publishes no figures on unreachable members and plans none, stating that regulated processes transfer unclaimed exit benefits after the statutory period to the Stiftung Auffangeinrichtung BVG, so fund level figures would say little. Unpaid benefits of deceased members are described as exceptional cases reviewed individually. The national figure, if it exists anywhere, sits with the central institutions. Unclaimed benefits sit with individual trustees, and the supervisor does not publish a combined total. AHV-IV-FAK (state pillar)
Authority response, 12 August 2026 (AHV-IV-FAK, state pillar): the Liechtensteinische AHV-IV-FAK confirmed in writing that no reliable figure can be produced, because state pension entitlements are not capital sums denominated in francs for a countable number of people, but claims of every insured person to a future pension of uncertain amount, arising from a pay-as-you-go system. The institution stated this will not be possible in future either.
What to do first
Write to the AHV-IV-FAK with your AHV number for your individual account statement, and ask each former employer which pension foundation held your occupational assets.

Which body would publish
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Thailand
The Securities and Exchange Commission for provident funds and the Social Security Office for the old age benefit. Neither publishes a national unclaimed total.
No figure published. The SEC has written that unclaimed provident fund money shows a continuous upward trend, without a total. In a written reply to PensionHunter of 21 August 2026, the SEC Complaint Center stated that the SEC does not publish members' outstanding balances individually and does not currently disclose unclaimed balance data annually or periodically, and that it will consider the matter going forward.
What to do first
Ask the former employer which provident fund company held the plan and write to that fund manager with your identity documents and dates of employment, then check your Social Security Fund contribution record with the Social Security Office.

Every body named here is welcome to send a figure. We will publish it, credit them, and date the change. Write to hello@pensionhunter.ai with a primary source URL and the date the data describes.
How a row qualifies as published
A figure is recorded only when a named body has put a number in public with a date and a source that can be opened and read. A regulator reporting total scheme assets does not qualify, because that is not a measure of what is unclaimed. Three of the five figures here come from government bodies or statutory regulators, the Australian Taxation Office, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Autoriteit Financiele Markten. The United Kingdom and United States numbers come from independent research bodies, because neither government publishes an equivalent total. The other forty-two systems have never published one.
Corrections and additions are welcome. If you maintain an official statistic for a system listed here as unpublished, send the primary source URL to hello@pensionhunter.ai.
Right of reply and corrections

The MPFA External Affairs Division replied by email: "MPFA does not publish such data. An MPF scheme member may register with the eMPF Platform to access information about MPF benefits held across all MPF schemes anytime, anywhere." The absence of a published figure is now confirmed in writing by the authority itself. The eMPF Platform is an individual-access route, letting a member see their own benefits, and it is not a published aggregate figure. Our record was already correct and is unchanged, its evidence is now the authority's own written confirmation.
