If you left money behind in Australia, in super or elsewhere, finder agencies offer to track it down and keep a share of what is paid out, and accountants offer to lodge the departing super application for a fixed fee. We set four that publish their fees beside what we do. Many of these firms also file the paperwork or move the money, which we do not. We compare them with us on four things only: identification, price, coverage and who keeps the money. We never hold client money and we never take a share of it. Every fee below is quoted from the provider's own page, read on 20 October 2026, and listed with its address in the sources at the end. Figures are in Australian dollars.
The four, in their own words
My Refund Finder
My Refund Finder lists "bank accounts, shares, superannuation and government-held funds" among what it looks for. Its terms state "the standard fee rate of 20% (+ GST)".
My Refund Agent
My Refund Agent's own page states: "MRA fee for service is 15%".
An agent with a sliding scale
One Australian agent publishes a sliding scale on its fees page. Its lowest band reads "$1,499: 24%", the band for a sum up to AUD 4,999 reads "$4,999: 18%", and its highest reads "Over $15,000: 10%".
Tax Way Accountants
Tax Way Accountants lists a "DASP application service fee" of "$550 Includes GST." for its departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP) service.
What we do instead
We identify pensions you may have left in the countries you worked in, across 41 countries, using official sources. We identify only. You then contact each fund, or apply, yourself. We do not give financial advice. For Australia, as for every country we cover, our report names what may exist and the official route to it.
The Country Pension Identification Report is $99 for one country. The Enhanced Pension Identification Report is $129 for two countries. The Global Pension Identification Report is $149 for three or more countries. If our report finds nothing material, you get a full refund. The refund terms are on our pricing page.
Worked example
Take a made-up case: someone worked in Australia, left, and AUD 3,000 sits in an old super account. Each figure below is the provider's own published rate applied to that sum.
- My Refund Finder at 20% plus GST: AUD 600 plus GST
- My Refund Agent at 15%: AUD 450
- The sliding scale agent at 18%: AUD 540
- Tax Way Accountants, fixed: AUD 550, for the departing super payment only
- PensionHunter: $99 for the Australia report, about AUD 142. You then apply yourself.
Converted figures use the European Central Bank's euro reference rates of 19 October 2026, read on 20 October 2026, and are approximate.
Comparison table
| Service | Fee, as its own page states it | On the AUD 3,000 example | Takes a share of the money | Countries named on its page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| My Refund Finder | 20% plus GST | AUD 600 plus GST | Yes | Australia |
| My Refund Agent | 15% | AUD 450 | Yes | Australia |
| Sliding scale agent | From 24% down to 10% | AUD 540 | Yes | Australia |
| Tax Way Accountants | AUD 550 including GST, departing super payment only | AUD 550 | No | Australia |
| PensionHunter | $99, Global $149 | $99, about AUD 142 | No | 41 countries |
When a percentage costs less
A percentage falls with the sum and a flat fee does not. On the same rates, My Refund Finder's 20% costs less than our fee only on a sum under about AUD 710 before GST, My Refund Agent's 15% under about AUD 950, and the sliding scale's 24% band under about AUD 590. The fixed AUD 550 is more than our fee on any sum.

Where to start
The official route for each country we cover is listed in our directory of official pension portals. Our free check asks where you worked and when, and shows which countries may hold a pension for you. Our pricing page shows what a report costs.
Try the alternative first
AI can tell you what a pension is. It cannot tell you that you have one. It is genuinely good at explaining how a rule works, and if that is all you needed, you have saved yourself a fee.
Then ask it which scheme holds your money and who administers it today, and ask it for the source and the date it checked. Why that is where it ends
