Malaysia pension deadlines for people who left

We list every obligation we have verified in Malaysia's pension system that runs on a time limit for someone who no longer lives there. Each row says what starts the clock, how long it runs and what is lost, with the official source and the date we checked it. We hold 14 rows for Malaysia. Where an official source is silent, we say so on the row rather than guess.

Pick the year and we open the free checker with Malaysia already selected.

What starts the clock
Wages for October 2025
How long
Mandatory contributions apply from October 2025 wages; the first contribution payment is due no later than 15 November 2025
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

KWSP's own employer responsibilities page for non Malaysian citizen employees states that mandatory contributions take effect starting from the October 2025 salary, with an employer share of 2 percent and an employee share of 2 percent, and that the first contribution payment must be made no later than 15 November 2025. The same page's own FAQ style content gives the age limit directly, stating a minimum age of 14 years old and a maximum age of 75 years old for non Malaysian citizen employees to contribute to EPF, and separately states that the employee must not yet have reached 75 years of age to be liable, and that the mandatory contribution obligation ceases when the non Malaysian citizen employee reaches the age of 75. This confirms, against the source rather than leaving it unconfirmed, that an upper age limit of 75 does apply.

What the source does not say

The page does not state a penalty, late payment charge, or dividend consequence for an employer who misses the 15 November 2025 first payment deadline; that omission is recorded here rather than assumed. The page does state the 75 year age ceiling clearly, which resolves the brief's flagged unconfirmed pass holders under 75 detail as confirmed on this kwsp.gov.my page.

What starts the clock
The date of the member's last contribution
How long
3 years after that date, with no further contribution credited
What is lost
Dividend ceases to be credited to the account and the member's EPF savings are transferred to the Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD), Accountant General's Department of Malaysia

KWSP's own Unclaimed Savings page sets out this rule specifically for non Malaysian citizens who registered as EPF members on or after 1 August 1998. If no contribution is credited to the member's account for three years since the date of the last contribution, dividend stops being credited and the member's EPF savings are transferred to the Unclaimed Money Management Division, known by its Malay initials BWTD, at the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia. The same page states that after that transfer, the member or their next of kin must liaise directly with BWTD to make any claim, and separately advises making a withdrawal, subject to EPF terms and conditions, before the transfer to BWTD takes effect.

What the source does not say

The page does not name a specific form or document the member or next of kin must submit to BWTD to make a claim after transfer, only that they must liaise directly with BWTD; it also does not state whether dividend continues to accrue, or at what rate, once the funds are held by BWTD rather than by KWSP.

What starts the clock
Expiry of the work permit, termination of contract by the employer, or date of resignation (whichever applies to the applicant)
How long
Apply 2 months before that date
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

KWSP's Leaving Country Withdrawal page gives this timing instruction under its Expatriate applicant category: expatriates should apply two months before the expiry of the work permit, termination of contract by the employer, or the date of resignation. The same page, under its separate Foreign Worker applicant category, lists Check Out Memo from the Immigration Department of Malaysia as a Proof of Departure document. The two requirements sit in different applicant category sections of the same page rather than in one combined sentence.

What the source does not say

The page does not state a consequence for applying late or leaving Malaysia without applying in time. It also does not state that Check Out Memo is required from expatriates specifically: that document is listed only under the page's separate Foreign Worker section, while the two month timing instruction is listed only under the page's Expatriate section, so this entry combines requirements from two applicant sections of the same page.

What starts the clock
Non-citizens registered on/after 1 Aug 1998: date of the last contribution credited. Others: member's 100th birthday per EPF records
How long
Three years after the last contribution (non-citizens registered on/after 1 Aug 1998); at age 100 with no withdrawal application (others)
What is lost
Dividend ceases to be credited and the EPF savings are transferred to the Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD), Accountant General's Department of Malaysia; any request for the money after the transfer must be made directly to BWTD.

For non-Malaysian citizens who registered as EPF members on or after 1 August 1998: if no contribution has been credited for three years since the last contribution, dividends stop and the savings are transferred to the Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD) of the Accountant General's Department under s.70H EPF Act 1991. For citizens, permanent residents and non-citizens registered before 1 August 1998: savings not withdrawn by age 100 are transferred in full to BWTD under s.51A. After transfer, requests for the money must be made directly to BWTD.

What the source does not say

The page is in English on kwsp.gov.my; the Bahasa Malaysia version was not available. The text for non-citizens sits behind a tab, 'Members Who Are Not Malaysian Citizens', and is not visible in the default view. The page carries no publication date. The page does not say the transfer is 'to the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys'; it names BWTD (Unclaimed Money Management Division).

How long
on the member reaching age 100 (dividends run from age 75 only until age 100)
What is lost
If no withdrawal application has been made by the member or their next-of-kin by age 100, the savings are transferred in their entirety to the Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD), Accountant General's Department of Malaysia, under Section 51A of the EPF Act 1991, and any later claim must be made directly to BWTD.

For Malaysian citizens, permanent residents and non-citizens who joined the EPF before 1 August 1998, EPF savings left unwithdrawn are credited with dividends only up to age 100, after which the whole balance is transferred out of the EPF to the Accountant General's Unclaimed Money Management Division.

How long
three years from the date of the last contribution credited to the account
What is lost
Dividends cease to be credited to the account and the entire EPF savings are transferred to the Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD), Accountant General's Department of Malaysia. The page states that after the transfer the member or next-of-kin must liaise directly with BWTD.

If you are a non-Malaysian who joined the EPF on or after 1 August 1998 and no contribution has been credited to your account for three years, your EPF savings stop earning dividends and are transferred out of the EPF to the Accountant General's Unclaimed Money Management Division.

What this means if you no longer live in Malaysia

This applies only to non-Malaysians who joined the EPF on or after 1 August 1998. The savings are transferred to the Accountant General's Unclaimed Money Management Division (BWTD), not destroyed, and after the transfer the member deals with BWTD directly.
