Deadline register

Philippines pension deadlines for people who left

We list every obligation we have verified in Philippines's pension system that runs on a time limit for someone who no longer lives there. Each row says what starts the clock, how long it runs and what is lost, with the official source and the date we checked it. We hold 8 rows for Philippines. Where an official source is silent, we say so on the row rather than guess.

Pick the year and we open the free checker with Philippines already selected.

PhilippinesForfeiture
What starts the clock
The month of suspension of the monthly pension.
How long
Two (2) years from the month of suspension.
What is lost
The pensioner is automatically cancelled.

What the source does not say

The page does not state what "cancellation" means in practice: whether pensioner status can be restored after cancellation, whether the accrued pensions withheld during the two years are still payable after cancellation, or what process a cancelled pensioner abroad would follow. The page separately states that a pensioner who does comply while merely suspended has "resumption of pension ... within two (2) months from the date of compliance" with accrued pensions credited, but says nothing equivalent for the cancelled case.

What starts the clock
The page counts monthly contributions paid up to the semester of retirement; it does not state a specific calendar date on which the contribution count begins
How long
The 120 monthly contributions must be paid prior to the semester of retirement
What is lost
Lump sum benefit, a one time cash benefit equivalent to the total contributions paid, including interest earned, paid to a retiree member who has not met the required 120 monthly contributions

SSS pays a lifetime monthly pension only to a retiree member who has paid at least 120 monthly contributions prior to the semester of retirement. A member who has not met the 120 contribution threshold instead receives a one time lump sum equal to total contributions paid plus interest earned.

What the source does not say

Page does not state the calendar date the 120 month count begins from (e.g. date of first SSS contribution), only that contributions are counted prior to the semester of retirement.

What starts the clock
Not stated as a specific calendar date; the page counts 240 monthly membership savings toward the 20 year maturity, and separately treats permanent departure from the country as an immediate qualifying event
How long
Membership maturity after 20 years and 240 monthly membership savings; or immediately upon permanent departure from the country (or the other listed grounds: retirement, disability, termination for health, death, critical illness, or other Board-approved grounds)
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

Pag-IBIG Fund guarantees refund of a member's Total Accumulated Value (personal savings, employer counterpart, and dividends) only upon occurrence of a listed ground. Membership maturity after 20 years and 240 monthly membership savings is one ground; permanent departure from the country is a separate, earlier ground that also makes the member eligible for the refund.

What the source does not say

The pagibigfund.gov.ph pages that host this rule could not be read when we checked: two pages returned an error, and the homepage and the Circular No. 380 PDF sat behind, respectively, a mandatory privacy-notice consent window and a Google security check. The quote instead comes from a Philippine Consulate General (Milan) page on the dfa.gov.ph domain, which restates the same TAV grounds in its own FAQ. That page does not state any consequence for a member who has not yet met a ground, nor does it give a filing deadline after permanent departure occurs.

PhilippinesPayment suspended
What starts the clock
The pensioner's month of birth (or the deceased member's month of birth for survivor pensioners), since suspension is measured as one month after that month
How long
On a yearly basis, on the right schedule tied to the pensioner's month of birth
What is lost
Failure to comply with ACOP on the right schedule will result in the suspension of the monthly pension. It will be automatically suspended one (1) month after the month of birth of the pensioner or of the deceased member. Automatic cancellation of pensioner after two (2) years from the month of suspension.

SSS pensioners must report to SSS on a yearly basis under the ACOP Program to keep receiving their monthly pension. Retirement pensioners residing abroad are among those required to comply every year, along with total disability pensioners, death or survivor pensioners, and dependent children under guardianship.

What the source does not say

Page does not spell out an exact calendar deadline within the birth month (e.g. a specific day), only that suspension follows one month after the month of birth.

PhilippinesPayment suspended
What starts the clock
The pensioner's due/birth month
How long
During the pensioner's due/birth month, each year
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

GSIS requires old age and survivorship pensioners based abroad to complete an Annual Renewal of Active Status, undertaken during the pensioner's due or birth month, using a Skype video conference process coordinated with GSIS.

What the source does not say

Page does not state what happens if a pensioner based abroad fails to complete ARAS during the due/birth month (e.g. whether the pension is suspended), and does not give an exact calendar day within that month.

PhilippinesApplication window
What starts the clock
The date of involuntary separation from employment.
How long
Within one (1) year from the date of involuntary separation.
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

An SSS unemployment (involuntary separation) benefit application must be filed within one year of the date of involuntary separation, and the benefit expressly covers Overseas Filipino Workers.

What the source does not say

The page states the filing period but does not state, as a general rule, what happens to an application filed after one year: it does not say in terms that a late application is barred or that the right is lost. The only place the page uses the word "denied" is a carve-out from the COVID period: "Unemployment benefit claims shall not be denied if the one (1) year deadline for filing thereof falls on 05 March 2020 until the last day of the community quarantine. All employees, whose claim falls on the said period, may still file their unemployment benefit claim application within sixty (60) days from the end of the community quarantine." That implies that denial is the normal outcome of late filing and shows that SSS can extend the period, but it stops short of stating either as a general rule.

What starts the clock
The month of birth of the pensioner, or of the deceased member in a death/survivor case.
How long
Annually. The source does not print a compliance window; it states only that the pension "will be automatically suspended one (1) month after the month of birth of the pensioner or of the deceased member", which is the point at which non-compliance bites.
What is lost
The monthly pension is suspended, automatically, one month after the pensioner's (or the deceased member's) birth month.

An SSS retirement pensioner living outside the Philippines must comply with the Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP) programme each year, or the monthly pension is automatically suspended one month after the pensioner's birth month.

What the source does not say

The page states the suspension trigger but never states the compliance window itself - it says only that compliance must be "on the right schedule" and does not say on which date or in which month the pensioner is due, nor how SSS notifies a pensioner abroad of their schedule. Two separate fetches with a literal-transcription prompt both failed to surface any stated window.

What starts the clock
The pensioner's (or deceased member's) month of birth each year
How long
Annually; suspension one month after the birth month if not complied
What is lost
Monthly pension is automatically suspended one month after the birth month; automatic cancellation of the pensioner two years from the month of suspension. On later compliance, pension resumes within two months of compliance and recalled and accrued pensions are credited.

Retirement pensioners residing abroad (with total disability pensioners, death/survivor pensioners, dependent children under guardianship, and retirement pensioners in the Philippines aged 80 and over from March 2024) must comply with the Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP) program each year. Failure to comply on schedule suspends the monthly pension automatically one month after the pensioner's (or deceased member's) birth month; the pensioner is automatically cancelled two years from the month of suspension.

What the source does not say

The page cites Circular 2023-013 (21 December 2023) for the detailed guidelines; we have not read the circular.
