Singapore pension deadlines for people who left

We list every obligation we have verified in Singapore's pension system that runs on a time limit for someone who no longer lives there. Each row says what starts the clock, how long it runs and what is lost, with the official source and the date we checked it. We hold 19 rows for Singapore. Where an official source is silent, we say so on the row rather than guess.

Pick the year and we open the free checker with Singapore already selected.

What starts the clock
Completion of the renunciation of Singapore Citizenship or Permanent Residency
How long
Member-initiated closure can happen once renunciation is completed; if not done by the member, closure happens automatically in the following month
What is lost
Your CPF account will be automatically closed in the following month.

CPF Board states that for renunciation on or after 1 April 2024, the member may close their own CPF account and transfer the savings to their bank account once renunciation is completed; otherwise the account will be automatically closed in the following month.

What the source does not say

The page does not state any adverse consequence of automatic closure beyond the closure itself; for example, it gives no interest-rate penalty for this group, who renounced on or after 1 April 2024.

How long
The commercial bank rate concession on the remaining savings runs until 31 March 2027
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

CPF Board states that members who renounced Singapore Citizenship or Permanent Residency before 1 April 2024 had their CPF account automatically closed in April 2024, with any remaining savings ceasing to earn the prevailing CPF interest rate. As a concession, those remaining savings instead earn interest similar to commercial bank interest rates, and that concessionary arrangement is stated to run only until 31 March 2027.

What the source does not say

The material we read does not state what happens to the interest rate or the funds after 31 March 2027; it gives only the end date of the concession, not what follows.

What is lost

CPF Board states that a member outside Singapore who does not have Singpass must have their documents witnessed and certified true either by an official from a Singapore Overseas Mission, with the official seal or stamp affixed, or, in Apostille Convention countries, first witnessed and certified true by a Notary Public and then certified by the country's designated Competent Authority via an apostille certificate. The average processing time for such an application is stated to be about 12 weeks.

What the source does not say

The page does not link this 12 week processing time to 31 March 2027, when the interest concession for those who renounced ends, and does not state a consequence for delay in submitting or processing the application.

How long
The withdrawal period runs for 10 years from that first qualifying withdrawal
What is lost
50% of the balance remaining in your SRS account at the end of the withdrawal period will be subject to income tax.

The Ministry of Finance's SRS booklet states that the withdrawal period starts when the member makes their first withdrawal at or after the statutory retirement age that was prevailing when they made their first SRS contribution, so it is the first contribution that fixes the applicable retirement age, while the 10 year clock itself only starts running from that first, retirement-age-qualifying withdrawal. The booklet also states that 50% of any balance remaining in the SRS account at the end of the withdrawal period will be subject to income tax.

What the source does not say

The parts of the booklet we read do not give the full question-and-answer text. The question number was seen only for the consequence at the end of the 10 year period (Q35), and the wording of the question behind the sentence 'withdrawal period starts when...' was not captured.

What starts the clock
Completion of the renunciation, i.e. the date the person is no longer a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
How long
When the renunciation is completed; automatic closure in the following month if not done
What is lost
The CPF account is automatically closed in the month following the renunciation; remaining savings stop earning the prevailing CPF interest and, as a concession, earn interest similar to commercial bank rates until 31 March 2027.

A member who renounced Singapore Citizenship or Permanent Residency from 1 April 2024 is told by CPF Board to close the CPF account and transfer the CPF savings to a bank account once the renunciation is completed. If the member does not, CPF Board closes the account automatically in the month after renunciation; the savings then earn interest similar to commercial bank rates as a concession until 31 March 2027.

What the source does not say

The page does not speak of a 'full withdrawal'; it says 'close your CPF account and transfer your CPF savings to your bank account'. Checked again against cpf.gov.sg on 5 October 2026: the page states that the concession ends on 31 March 2027 without stating a consequence after that date.

Closure of the CPF account; the concession rate runs from April 2024
How long
Concession interest until 31 March 2027
What is lost
CPF states only that the concession ends on 31 March 2027. The savings themselves are not lost and can still be transferred out at any time.

Once a CPF account is closed because the member is no longer a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident, remaining savings stop earning the prevailing CPF interest and, as a concession, earn interest similar to commercial bank rates until 31 March 2027. The savings can still be transferred to a bank account at any time.

What the source does not say

Corrected 5 October 2026 against cpf.gov.sg. CPF describes interest as similar to commercial bank rates and says only that the concession ends on 31 March 2027. It does not publish a numeric rate or state the consequence after the concession ends.

If you completed renunciation of Singapore citizenship or PR before 1 April 2024, CPF Board closed your CPF account automatically in April 2024 and the money stopped earning the normal CPF interest rate.
