Slovenia pension deadlines for people who left

We list every obligation we have verified in Slovenia's pension system that runs on a time limit for someone who no longer lives there. Each row says what starts the clock, how long it runs and what is lost, with the official source and the date we checked it. We hold 3 rows for Slovenia. Where an official source is silent, we say so on the row rather than guess.

Pick the year and we open the free checker with Slovenia already selected.

SloveniaApplication window79 days left, closes 31 December 2026
What starts the clock
The source does not state what starts the clock
How long
Apply by 31 December 2026.
What is lost
The guaranteed widow's pension is not recognised. Those already receiving a widow's pension at the mejni znesek are decided by ZPIZ of its own motion and need not apply.

A widow or widower who on 28 December 2023, when ZPIZ-2N took effect, was already drawing a pension and at the same time met the conditions both for their own old-age, early or invalidity pension and for a widow's pension must apply by 31 December 2026 to be awarded the zagotovljena vdovska pokojnina (guaranteed widow's pension). An application made in time is backdated to the first day of the month after it is filed, but no earlier than 1 January 2024. If it is not made in time, the entitlement is not recognised. Not everyone has to apply: someone who on 28 December 2023 was already receiving a widow's pension at the mejni znesek (threshold amount), or their own pension plus the 15 per cent part widow's pension where the sum does not exceed the guaranteed pension, is decided by ZPIZ of its own motion (po uradni dolznosti), with the right running from 1 January 2025. A pension from a foreign institution affects both entitlement and amount, and the applicant must produce evidence of it, so a widow or widower living abroad has to document a foreign pension when applying.

What starts the clock
Not a dated deadline; cutoff is the date the period was completed
How long
Periods completed up to 8 October 1991 (Serbia); 8 October 1991 (Bosnia and Herzegovina); 7 October 1991 (Montenegro); 31 March 1992 (North Macedonia)
What is lost
the source does not state what happens if this is missed

Under the Slovenia-Serbia social security agreement, insurance periods completed in the other contracting state count only in their actual duration, except that periods completed there up to 8 October 1991 count in the duration recognised under the legal rules then in force. ZPIZ's pages for the other ex-Yugoslav treaty states carry the same rule with different cutoffs: Bosnia and Herzegovina 8 October 1991, Montenegro 7 October 1991, North Macedonia 31 March 1992 (the BiH and North Macedonia pages give as examples participation in the NOV counted at double duration and periods counted with increased duration).

What the source does not say

The cutoffs differ by country and concern the duration credited, actual or increased, not whether a period counts at all. The source does not say that periods may not count.

What starts the clock
The source does not state what starts the clock
How long
The minimum age rises in steps from 58 (2026 and 2027) to 60 (from 2035).
What is lost
Someone turning 58 in 2027 qualifies; someone turning 58 in 2028 does not.

Widow's pension age scale (ZPIZ-2O, Uradni list RS 90/25, applying from 1 January 2026), as set out in the table: 2026 58 years, 2027 58, 2028 58 years 3 months, 2029 58 years 6 months, 2030 58 years 9 months, 2031 59, 2032 59 years 3 months, 2033 59 years 6 months, 2034 59 years 9 months, 2035 60 years. The conditions are judged as at the date of death, not the date of application, so a later application does not move the person onto a higher threshold.
