Deadline register

Sweden pension deadlines for people who left

We list every obligation we have verified in Sweden's pension system that runs on a time limit for someone who no longer lives there. Each row says what starts the clock, how long it runs and what is lost, with the official source and the date we checked it. We hold 9 rows for Sweden. Where an official source is silent, we say so on the row rather than guess.

Pick the year and we open the free checker with Sweden already selected.

How long
Maximum three months retroactively before the application date, and at the earliest from the month of death
What is lost
Anything older than three months before the application is not paid.

A surviving spouse's Swedish adjustment pension (omställningspension) or widow's pension (änkepension) is backdated only three months before the application date, so a widow abroad who applies late loses the earlier months permanently.

A challenge to a decision on your pension rights (pensionsrätt - the credits earned from a year's income) has a hard calendar cut-off: it must reach the agency by 31 December of the current year, not merely two months after you saw it.
