Pension guide

How do I find an old pension?

Finding an old pension is an identification problem, not a paperwork problem. The work is to identify the scheme, administrator, or fund that holds the entitlement, then contact details follow. Each country has its own access route; the route, not your effort, decides what's possible.

Steps

1. List every employer and the country you worked in

Name, approximate dates, and country are the minimum a research process needs. National-insurance / tax IDs help where they exist but are rarely required to identify a scheme.

2. Use the country's official register or portal first

Some countries publish free official lookups (UK Pension Tracing Service, Australia ATO MyGov, Netherlands mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl behind DigiD). Each returns contact details only, never balances, never membership confirmation.

3. Identify the current administrator, not the original employer

Schemes get acquired, bulk-bought, and rebranded across decades. A 1990s payroll deduction can sit today inside a scheme nobody at the original employer would recognise. The identification work is reading that history.

4. Write to the identified scheme directly

Once a scheme is identified, the member writes (or we write under an Information Request Authority) for a benefit statement. Schemes respond to the member; we never receive funds.

Frequently asked questions

Can you find a pension from decades ago?

Often, yes, but it depends on the country. Where a public register or scheme-name lineage exists (UK, NL, AU), identification is usually possible. Where there is no employer-to-fund register (e.g. NO, SE for occupational layers), identification from employment history alone is structurally impossible and the honest answer is to pivot to portal-based self-service.

Do I need documents from the original employer?

No. Employer name, country, and approximate dates are usually enough to start. Old payslips or P60s help confirm an identified scheme but are not a prerequisite.

Will you give me the value of the pension?

No. We identify the scheme and route to access; the scheme itself issues benefit statements. We do not estimate values, project growth, or give financial advice.

What if you find nothing?

Full refund. Our report is a fixed $99 fee; if it delivers nothing material, you pay nothing.
