Pension question, Austria
When should I apply for my Austrian pension?
The pension authority states the Antragsprinzip plainly: to receive a pension you must always file an application. An application for an Austrian old-age pension can be filed at the earliest 6 months before the qualifying date (Stichtag) and at the latest on the Stichtag itself; the recommended time is about 3 months before.

From when is the pension paid?
For own pensions the day you file triggers the Stichtag, and the Stichtag is normally the first day of payment: file on the first of a month and that is your date, otherwise it is the first of the following month.

Do you give advice on what to do?
No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
