Pension question, Japan

Is there a deadline for the Japan pension refund?

A person who has lost insured status under the public pension system can apply for the lump sum withdrawal payment only within two years of the day they last lost that insured status. If the person still had an address in Japan on the date they lost insured status, the two year period instead runs from the day they no longer have an address in Japan.

What else must be true to receive it?

One of the mandatory eligibility requirements for the Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment is that not more than two years have elapsed since the person last lost insured status under the public pension system, alongside not holding Japanese nationality, having at least 6 months of coverage, not meeting the 10-year qualifying period, never having held a right to a disability pension, and not having an address in Japan.

Do you give advice on what to do?

No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
