Pension question, Spain

Do years worked abroad count towards a Spanish pension?

Spain then runs the calculation twice, once on your Spanish periods alone and once on the combined basis, and its own guidance is explicit that both calculations are always performed and the higher amount is the one paid. Spanish emigrants and children of emigrants can fill a Spanish contribution gap while or after working abroad by subscribing to the convenio especial para emigrantes españoles e hijos de emigrantes.

Questions people also ask

Is there a deadline to keep paying in after leaving?

To sign up to the ordinary convenio especial (voluntary continued contributions to Spanish Social Security), the application must be submitted within 1 year, counted for most people from the day after the effective date of deregistration from the Social Security scheme.

Do you give advice on what to do?

No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
