How a pension fund can reach members abroad without sharing data

A pension fund can register with GPFR, the Global Pension Finding Register, without sharing any member data: registration needs only the fund's name, a contact and a work email address. If a fund later wants to confirm former members who registered, that happens only under a signed data agreement, and nothing is shared unless the person and the fund both say yes.

What does a fund share to register?

Nothing about its members. We ask for a work email address, the fund's name, a contact name and a role, and we confirm your registration by email. Every email from us carries a link to remove your registration.

What do people do?

People who worked abroad add themselves once, with consent, on the register page. Your browser turns your own name and date of birth into codes before anything is sent. We keep only those codes, under UK GDPR (ICO registration ZC113586).

When could a fund confirm a former member?

Later, if the fund wants to, and only under a signed data agreement. Until a fund has signed one, it sends us no member data and nothing is shared. Even then, nothing goes to a fund unless the person and the fund both say yes, and the fund confirms its own member. We cannot promise that any former member of a fund is in GPFR.

What is open today, and what is not?

  • Open: people register once, with consent. Funds can register on the fund page, free.
  • Not open yet: matching. It opens for each fund only once that fund's data agreement is signed.

Registration is free for funds.

If you worked abroad yourself, you can add yourself to GPFR, and our free pension check shows which countries in your work history may hold a pension.

Where does this fit with the Netherlands?

A GPFR check is an additional step in a fund's tracing policy, on top of the legally required BRP check. It never replaces the BRP check.
