A surviving spouse's Swedish adjustment pension (omställningspension) or widow's pension (änkepension) is backdated only three months before the application date, so a widow abroad who applies late loses the earlier months permanently.
What is lost: Anything older than three months before the application is not paid.

Dated obligation on record
Sweden's guarantee pension - the minimum-income top-up - has been closed to new awards since October 2022, and the temporary law that let existing recipients abroad keep it ended on 1 January 2023.
What is lost: Guarantee pension can no longer be newly granted; those who had it in September 2022 kept it only up to and including December 2022.
