Pension question, Denmark

Do Danish pensioners abroad need a life certificate?

A person who lives outside Denmark and receives folkepension, førtidspension or seniorpension must confirm every year that they are alive by returning a life certificate (leveattest) to Udbetaling Danmark. ATP sends life certificates to ATP Livslang Pension recipients living abroad each May, and the certificate must be returned to ATP.

What to do next

  1. Put May and the return date in your diary each year.
  2. Find a witness or a local authority that can sign or stamp the certificate.
  3. Run our free check to see whether another country also holds a pension for you.

Questions people also ask

How is it signed without MitID?

A person who lives outside Denmark and does not have MitID must sign the life certificate themselves and have another person sign it as well (or have it stamped by an authority) before returning it.

Do you give advice on what to do?

No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
