Pension question, Switzerland

Can I fill gaps in my Swiss AHV contributions?

Missing contributions can only be paid for gaps in the last five years; older gaps cannot be made good, and each missing year lowers the pension. Outstanding AHV contributions, including gap filling arrears, can no longer be asserted or paid once five years have passed from the end of the calendar year for which they are owed.

What to do next

  1. Ask for your Swiss individual account statement, so any gap shows up.
  2. Note the years you lived or worked outside Switzerland.
  3. Run our free check to see which other countries may hold a pension for those years.

Do you give advice on what to do?

No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
