Pension question, Switzerland
Can I join Swiss voluntary AHV after leaving Switzerland?
To join the Swiss voluntary OASI/DI (AHV/IV) scheme after leaving compulsory Swiss insurance, the application form must be submitted within one year of the end of compulsory insurance. Members of the Swiss voluntary OASI/DI scheme abroad must pay the full contributions owed for a calendar year before 31 December of the following year or they are thrown out of the scheme.
What to do next
- Find the date your compulsory Swiss insurance ended.
- Note the country you live in now, because the voluntary scheme depends on it.

Do you give advice on what to do?
No. We identify where a pension is likely held and the official route to it, and we name each source with the date we read it. We do not give financial, tax or legal advice.
