A genuine central lookup: the Superintendencia de Pensiones affiliation consult names which of the seven AFPs holds an individual account under DL 3.500, keyed to the RUN plus name, email and telephone. ClaveUnica requires a valid cedula, and every Chilean consulate worldwide issues ClaveUnica and renews cedulas, so Chileans abroad stay inside the digital route; others use the written route, with the Superintendencia reachable from abroad on +56 2 27074260. Foreign technical workers may apply for a refund of contributions under Ley 18.156 via notarized power of attorney. Unclaimed AFP money never becomes the property of the AFP: balances pass to heirs, and the State takes only where no heirs exist. Country rules on record

  • THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT CHILEAN FACT FOR AN EMIGRANT.

What is lost: The PGU is EXTINGUISHED, not suspended. For someone living abroad it is effectively unavailable.

    Official source, previsionsocial.gob.cl (checked 1 September 2026)

  • Two further PGU clocks: suspension after SIX continuous months without collecting, and THREE months to supply evidence once IPS requests it.

What is lost: Payment suspended. IPS writes to the address it holds, which for an absent beneficiary is usually stale, so the letter that starts the three months is the one least likely to arrive.
