Find your pension after working in France and Spain

Pensions accrued in France and Spain are administered separately by each country's providers and registers. We do the identification work in both jurisdictions, the route is different in each, and we use the verified route per country.

Your France pension, what we can identify

Verified country facts

Every line below is drawn from the verified country dossier. We never fabricate facts; candidate items are gated out of customer-facing copy.

Why it matters

The mandatory Agirc-Arrco complementary pension is a SEPARATE entitlement from the CNAV base pension (two bodies, two streams), and French pensions are never paid automatically; they must be filed ~5 months ahead.

If you do nothing

Nothing is paid without an application; filing late loses un-backdated months. No refund for leavers, rights are preserved and exportable, paid pro-rata at retirement.

Time-critical dates

  • Active-claim window: File ~5 months before the desired start (9 for early long-career; ≥6 for cross-border)
  • CFE voluntary window: 6 months from the end of mandatory insurance
  • Ciclade dormancy: Dormant SUPPLEMENTARY products → State after 30 years (base/Agirc-Arrco excluded)
  • Ciclade free official search: The free official Ciclade service searches unclaimed money transferred to the Caisse des Depots. It is open to any nationality and covers employee retirement plans (PEE, PER, PERCO).Official source, checked 21 August 2026
  • Thirty-year transfer to the State: Unclaimed money follows a legal clock ending 30 years after last activity, after which it is definitively transferred to the French State.Official source, checked 21 August 2026
  • Annual life certificate from abroad: Pensioners living abroad send a life certificate every year, completed by the competent local authority of the country of residence, and returned within two months or payment is suspended.Official source, checked 16 September 2026

How records are reached

Personal-record access wall: info-retraite.fr / Mon compte retraite, FranceConnect + a NIR (RNIPP); no-NIR expats locked out

The relevé de carrière is on info-retraite.fr; cross-border claims file via the residence-country institution

From abroad: La Poste Identité Numérique can be created remotely (62 countries) and unlocks FranceConnect → info-retraite.fr, BUT it is NIR-gated, so the holder must already know their NIR (RNIPP). The no-NIR case is the harder path and remains UNKNOWN.

Cross-border

EU aggregation + single-claim cascade (file in residence country → cascades to France); the expat must still list France.

Verified country facts

Every line below is drawn from the verified country dossier. We never fabricate facts; candidate items are gated out of customer-facing copy.

Why it matters

A worker with FEWER THAN 15 years in Spain gets ZERO Spanish pension, unless EU coordination or the Ibero-American Multilateral Convention aggregates their foreign years to clear the 15-year cliff; and Spain never pays it automatically.

If you do nothing

The right to recognition is imprescriptible, but the pension is never auto-paid and each unclaimed monthly arrear lapses one year after it falls due; there is no dormant register.

Time-critical dates

  • Monthly arrear lapse: Each unclaimed monthly arrear lapses 1 year after falling due
  • Convenio especial: Eligibility needs 1,080 days in the prior 12 years, the window closes as time since leaving elapses
  • Annual proof of life: Pensioners resident abroad confirm each year, between 1 January and 31 March, that they are alive, through the VIVESS application or at consulates.Official source, checked 21 August 2026
  • Late application backdating: A Spanish pension application filed late is backdated by at most 3 months.Official source, checked 21 August 2026
  • Filing from an EU country of residence: Former workers resident in another EU country file the Spanish pension application with the institution of their country of residence, which forwards it to the INSS.Official source, checked 21 August 2026
  • Ten-year liquidity of pension plan savings: Pension plan savings from contributions made up to 31 December 2015 became withdrawable on 1 January 2025 under the ten-year liquidity rule (RD 62/2018).Official source, checked 21 August 2026

How records are reached

Personal-record access wall: Cl@ve PIN / Cl@ve Permanente / certificado digital / DNIe (via Import@ss / sede.seg-social.gob.es)

The informe de vida laboral is the contribution record; an SMS route exists but needs the already-registered mobile

From abroad: The official from-abroad route is an FNMT certificado acreditado issued in person at a Spanish Consulate (consular timeframes apply). A fully-online from-abroad route remains UNKNOWN.

Cross-border

EU aggregation + the Ibero-American Multilateral Convention (~11 Ibero-American member states, incl. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay), the distinctive Latin-America rescue; +20 bilaterals.

Cross-border, factual

France and Spain pensions are not pooled or auto-consolidated. Each leg is worked on its own: registers searched in France, registers searched in Spain, and contact details surfaced where the dossier supports it. State pensions may be affected by bilateral or reciprocal agreements between the two jurisdictions, each country page records what its dossier establishes; we do not invent treaty effects.

Frequently asked questions

Can PensionHunter trace a pension from France when I now live in Spain?

Yes. Our report covers identification work in both France and Spain as separate jurisdictions. Each country's pensions are administered locally; we work each one using the access route published on its country page.

Do my France and Spain pensions combine automatically?

No. Pensions accrued in France stay with France schemes; pensions accrued in Spain stay with Spain schemes. They are administered separately. Bilateral and reciprocal agreements may affect state pension aggregation in some pairs, see each country page for what its dossier records.

What does the Pension Identification Report deliver for a France→Spain working history?

An identification-only report covering both jurisdictions: registers searched, any provider matches with contact details, and any registers that require you to check directly using your own credentials. We do not give financial advice, transfer pensions, or estimate values.

What if you find nothing?

Full refund if we find nothing material. Fixed fee, $99 Country Pension Identification Report, $499 Enhanced Pension Identification Report, $799 Global (covers all requested countries).
