Pension question, Mexico
When does an AFORE account move to the Fondo de Pensiones para el Bienestar?
Under Article 302 of the Ley del Seguro Social as reformed on 30 April 2024, the AFORE must transfer the account to the Fondo de Pensiones para el Bienestar when the holder turns seventy, unless the holder has an active Mexican job. The balance then sits in a Banco de Mexico trust, and the IMSS route to it starts with attending a Subdelegacion in person.
