Your pension after a move between two countries: the moves people search most
We now publish a page for each of the 60 moves between two countries that people search most about a pension left behind, listed on our country routes page. Each page answers one question: what happens to the pension you built in one country now that you live in another? It sets out what our data records for that pair: the social security agreement route between the two countries, or "none recorded in our data"; the institution that holds the record in the country you left and how its route works from abroad; and dated deadlines from our deadline register. Every fact carries its source and the date we read it.
Which moves are on the list?
The ones with the most search evidence. On 14 October 2026 we read the search suggestions Google returned for each candidate pair, in English and in the home languages, and counted the distinct suggestions naming both countries. We cannot measure how often anything is searched, so we state no volume. The strongest five with a page in search results:
- New Zealand pension, living in Australia
- United Kingdom pension, living in Australia
- United Kingdom pension, living in France
- United Kingdom pension, living in Spain
- United Kingdom pension, living in Ireland
For the move searched most in our evidence, New Zealand to Australia, the page names Inland Revenue myIR, KiwiSaver on ird.govt.nz, read 6 September 2026.
What did the second wave add?
On 14 October 2026 we read a second round of search suggestions, the same way, adding the name people use for the state pension itself in their own language with the country they live in now, such as "aow spanje" in Dutch or "ahv kosovo" in German. The next 30 moves by that evidence now have a page, and 25 of them are in search results. The first of them:
- France pension, living in Germany
- Germany pension, living in Austria
- Germany pension, living in Spain
- Germany pension, living in France
- Germany pension, living in Italy
Every corridor page now also covers the country you live in now: its own official record, the other official routes our portals directory lists for it, where its free route stops in the directory's words, and rows from our deadline register for that country that differ from the rows shown when it is the country left. Question pages are picked for the pair, and each page lists more of the searches that put the move on the list.
What does "none recorded in our data" mean?
Our agreement rows come from the official agreement lists of the countries we have mapped, the same rows as our monthly data release. They record agreements between a mapped country and a country we research. For two countries we research, we hold no such row, and the page says so. That is a gap in what we have read, not a finding that no agreement exists. 5 moves on the list, Germany to Poland and United Kingdom to Poland and Germany to Greece and Germany to Hungary and Germany to Croatia, involve a country we have mapped, and there our data records the agreement route with the official list it was read on.
Why are some pages not in search results?
Two pages about the same two countries, or about two moves from the same country, can carry much the same facts. We do not add near copies to search results: where a new page's text overlaps a page already in search results by more than 40 percent, we keep it for readers and mark it noindex. Pages that were already in search results stay there. 55 of the 60 pages are in search results.
What do the pages not do?
They do not say whether a pension exists in your name, name a scheme or estimate an amount. Our free check reads your own work history, and our free map shows the countries you worked in side by side. We identify and research; we do not give advice.

Try the alternative first
AI can tell you what a pension is. It cannot tell you that you have one. It is genuinely good at explaining how a rule works, and if that is all you needed, you have saved yourself a fee.
Then ask it which scheme holds your money and who administers it today, and ask it for the source and the date it checked. Why that is where it ends
